A Great Year!

Rhinebeck Crew competed in two regattas over the past weekend: Hudson Valley Rowing League Championships Rhinebeck Crew raced with a limited team as many of our rowers had conflicting academic priorities. However, the team performed well, highlighted by the Lightweight Mens 4 finishing first in their qualifying race and third in the finals. View Full Results Row for the Cure It was a beautiful morning for racing as we supported breast cancer research efforts at this festive regatta! Rhinebeck showed well in many races highlighted by our two Mens Varsity 4 boats coming in 1st and 2nd respectively. Our Womens Varsity 4 boat also captured 1st place! Many other Rhinebeck boats also qualified for medals by placing 2nd or 3rd. We wish them well as they head off to college and to pursue what we know will be bright futures. But mostly we thank them for their leadership, competitive spirit and their support for their teammates over the past four years. We hope to see them all back as alumni rowers at Row for the Cure next year! We look forward to seeing everyone at our year end banquet this Sunday, June 11 at 4pm at the Poughkeepsie Boathouse!

2017 New York State Championships

Shout out to the rowers and spec-atheletes (spectators that spend long hours supporting our team), including parents, siblings, and friends, for displaying terrific, positive energy and unbridled enthusiasm.  Your continued, absolute support throughout the weekend was impressive.  Particular gratitude goes out to those parents and rowers who stayed through the very last race on Sunday – it was a standing ovation as our boys ltwt 4 crossed the finish line in 5th place and it meant a lot to the rowers. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our rowers!  The entire Rhinebeck Crew 2017 team rowed their hearts out and it made a positive impression on all who witnessed your races.  Rhinebeck Crew was once again very competitive in this regatta and was THE TOP performing team from the Hudson Valley.  To the rowers, in the disqualified boats, we were particularly impressed with your positive attitude, mature response under adverse circumstances, and your continued unparalleled support of your team on Sunday.  In addition to the boat mentioned above, we had other boats perform in the top echelon of their categories. As always, THANK YOU to our coaching staff for their tireless support, encouragement, and guidance they provide our developing student athletes.  In addition to the obvious time spent at practices and races, we know and appreciate the additional amount of time you spend thinking about your team behind the scenes on a daily basis. Thank you to our school chaperone, Beth Heady, for all her support, kindness, and knowledge of the sport of rowing AND the nuances of young, student athletes! Massive amounts of gratitude go out to our food trailer team for their never-ending work over the weekend.  We see this crew work from set-up of our space on Friday afternoon, through the break-down of the tent, and packing of the trailer on Sunday.   In the interim, they are preparing meals, manning the grill, cleaning our space, and just generally making sure we all enjoy the atmosphere of the regatta.  Behind the scenes and during the week the food trailer crew spends and inordinate amount of time planning, shopping, and preparing for all the weekend’s events.  We can never say THANK YOU enough times to you! O’Neil Race

Rhinebeck Crew braved the chill and wind to compete in the O’Neil Race this past weekend at West Point in New York. The regatta’s highlights included first place finishes by our Lightweight Girls 4 boat and our Junior Girls 4 boat. We also earned a 2nd place finish for the Boys Lightweight 4, 3rd place finish for the Girls Varsity 8 and 4th place finishes for the Boys Varsity 4 and Novice Girls 4. Our Coaches were extremely pleased with all the rowers and are looking forward to a strong showing at the New York State Championships next weekend in Saratoga!  The gratitude that the rowers showed their parents and the volunteers at the close of the day was impressive and well-received.  We continue to be impressed with the overall positive attitude of our team – no other sport defines teamwork quite like rowing. Thanks as always to everyone who pitched in at our Rhinebeck Crew trailer site, especially those who arrived before sunrise and those that stayed until the end!

Thank you FMF! Thanks to everyone (including the rowers!) who pitched in to support the team. We had a great showing of support! We’ll be back at the historic riverside in Poughkeepsie several more times this season (See Calendar.) Poughkeepsie has been the site of some of the most prominent races in American rowing history. Tens of thousands used to gather for regattas along the shores and many followed the races in moving trains on the west side of the river. The Intercollegiate Championships were held here for many years. You can see a clip from 1934, including a shot of the moving train, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrayUl2ZNhc#t=25
