Thank you for your interest in Rhinebeck Crew!
We hope you will join us for an exciting season of racing and help us support the Rhinebeck High School Crew Team. The following are some FAQs about our organization and crew program.
It’s our belief at Rhinebeck Crew, that this environment plays a key role in helping our aspiring young athletes:
Get in terrific shape and meet new people.
Achieve athletic distinction and build self-confidence.
Learn the value of hard work, commitment, and dedication.
Develop many important life-skills crucial to succeed in today’s increasingly competitive society.
Is Rhinebeck Crew a school sport?
Yes. The Rhinebeck Central School District endorses and supports the team by hiring and paying for the coaching staff. Rhinebeck Crew, Inc provides the remainder of the funding. This includes the purchase, maintenance and storage of all boats and equipment, motor launches for the coaches, and transporting the boats to and from regattas. In addition, we also cover the costs of entry fees, insurance, training, and transporting our rowers to and from after school practices on the river. We also have a food trailer to provide our rowers with healthy snacks, drinks, and hot food at the regattas.
Who can be on Rhinebeck Crew?
Any student of Rhinebeck High School that meets the school’s athletic participation requirements and is able to pass a swim test.
Do you need previous rowing experience?
No. Our program is open to any student interested in rowing. In fact, the vast majority of incoming rowers enter the program with no experience.
How does Rhinebeck Crew, Inc. fund this program?
Our rowers pay dues and we have five primary fundraisers that include an appeal letter that goes out every fall to local businesses and individuals, a Rock and Row erg race with music and dancing in the high school gym, a can shake at local stores, a candy sale, and a dance party with a silent auction.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Rhinebeck Crew, Inc. is a federally recognized 501c (3) non-for-profit incorporated under the laws of the State of New York on February 27, 2001. Please see our donation page for more information.
