Team Values
Safety
Rowing is a water sport, therefore safe operation while at the dock and on the water are of utmost importance and are our primary priorities. Rhinebeck coaches are required to be aware of, and abide by USRowing safety guidelines. All rowers must pass a swim test, view a safety video, and comply with any other safety related requirements dictated by the coaching staff or school.
Generosity
As a rower you learn to give of yourself — to your boat, to your team, to the program — both on and off the water. In training as well as races, you learn to give to the point of emptiness, to achieve a fullness only rowers know. A selfless spirit of generosity and inclusiveness helps us understand the profound value of giving to others.
Reliability
Crew is in many ways the ultimate team sport. There are no individual star performers in crew, only successful teams. Multiple rowers working in tandem make the boat succeed. Relying on your teammates to give as much as you give is a hallmark of the sport of rowing. Showing up consistently and on time, respecting the coaching staff, and supporting your teammates, illustrates your commitment to the team.
Fun
Fun means enjoying and respecting one another in good spirits and uncompromising mutual support, even at the expense of winning. Fun and laughter are a good balance to the extreme physical and mental pressures of the sport of rowing.
Speed
Like any sport, we row to win. We win when we make the boat go as fast as we can. All of our efforts in and out of the boat are meant to add speed. This includes commitment to practice, erg training and physical conditioning, technique, rhythm, and anything else asked of us by the coaching staff.
